Snowbelt conditions
Barrie receives much more snow than Toronto, driven by lake-effect from Georgian Bay. Snow load, ice dams and meltwater are major concerns. Ice and water protection at eaves and valleys and good attic ventilation are especially important.
Metal roofing can shed snow well, but sliding snow must be managed near doors, walkways and lower roofs.
Allandale and the East End
Older neighbourhoods near downtown include Victorian and early twentieth-century homes with brick, steep roofs and chimneys. Masonry may need repointing with compatible mortar, and chimneys often need crown work.
Older attics may have limited insulation and ventilation, contributing to ice dams.
Kempenfelt Bay and waterfront homes
Homes near the waterfront face wind and moisture off the bay. Roof edges, flashing and masonry on the exposed side often wear faster.
Hillside lots may have drainage challenges, so we check downspout discharge and grading.
Painswick, Holly and newer neighbourhoods
Newer homes in south Barrie feature larger roofs with valleys and dormers that collect snow. Early issues include ice at eaves and poorly sealed vents.
Eavestroughs can be damaged by ice and sliding snow; we assess sizing and attachment.
Working in Barrie
We travel from Toronto and have no Barrie office. Each project starts with an inspection, followed by a free estimate as a written quote and a written contract covering materials, areas, exclusions and access. The City of Barrie may require a building permit; we'll confirm what's needed.
Statley is WSIB covered. Call 1-888-457-7076 to discuss your home.
